Harkes: Willie Mays, you know, he has really great vision out there. He could be good for a long time. What a commanding presence on the pitch, as well. He really does well to organize the back line.
Edwards: First pitch right down the river for a strike.
Harkes: You know, I had a friend back in college who was buddies with Mays' Little League coach. He just raved on and on about the way he makes his runs. He is a creative player, for sure (CROWD CHEERS).
Edwards: Ohh---
Harkes (continuing): Ohh my he got a hold of that one. Anyway, Mays certainly appears to have future captain material, displaying all of the intangibles. He may even have a future as a manager in this league, with the leadership he displays. He's really going to be something special, Jack. Meanwhile, it looks like the Giants have won the game. This is really going to propel Mays...watch for him to have a breakout season next year.
Edwards (disgusted): Well, the Giants have won...on a Bobby Thomson home run. And they will go on to the World Series.
Harkes: Yeah, Branca was thinking about dealing with Mays and perhaps not focusing much on the task at hand. He was unlucky there.
